MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will not be published in September as had been announced, with the release now scheduled for December 10, as announced by Piranha Games.
The news about the publication of the title is not only the postponement, it was also confirmed that the work will be a temporary exclusive of Epic Games Store when it is released. The agreement is valid for 12 months after the publication of the title.
Knowing that not all fans are fans of Fornite’s digital store, Piranha also revealed that anyone who pre-ordered MechWarrior 5 on its official website has until September 1 to cancel the work if they do not agree with the exclusivity.
Those who cancel the pre-order will be entitled to a full refund of money, but those who do so may retain the MechWarrior Online content that was offered in Standard, Collector and Ultimate editions.
There is a private beta scheduled for November, however, those who cancel the pre-order will lose their place, as will the MechWarrior 5 digital items that were exclusive to the pre-order phase.
Russ Bullock, executive producer, commented on this decision by stating that “our partner with Epic Games Store gives Piranha the opportunity to ensure that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is up to our internal goal of making the best MechWarrior game possible”.
“Since we announced the development of the first MechWarrior singleplayer game in 17 years, we have been asserting that our goal was to provide fans with a truly free choice MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries experience and the ability to share that experience in a cooperative context,” It is even mentioned. “Understandably, some fans will be disappointed that they have to wait a little longer for MechWarrior 5, but it’s important for Piranha Games that we do it the right way,” is still highlighted by Bullock, recognizing that exclusivity certainly won’t appeal to all fans.
